PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – First, allow me to Introduce myself. My name is Amber Rountree; I’m the Newsroom Intern and it is my third week here at WAVY TV 10. I’m a Senior at Old Dominion University, majoring in Journalism.
When I first found out about my acceptance into the internship, I was overfilled with joy and excitement, but as it got closer for my orientation, I became nervous. I didn’t know anyone and I knew this would be a big step for me, and I desperately wanted to be prepared.
I learned very quickly, no matter how much you prepare for something new, you’re still going to feel a little nervous, and you won’t be fully prepared. So, I took on the task of trying every day to seize the moment.
I won’t lie, I don’t get it right all the time, but I’m glad I’ve been surrounded by people that don’t expect me to. They expect the mistakes and have been helping me grow from them. Everyone is super friendly, hardworking, full of knowledge and supportive! This is great for me because I have so many questions I want to get answered.
The main question I ask everyone when first meeting them is “What do you love most about the job?” The answer is always “There is something new every day”. And I 100 percent believe that! There’s always something new happening in the newsroom; a new story to be told, a change in plan… anything. I’m just grateful for the chance to witness it first-hand. From morning meetings, shadowing reporters, writing scripts, video editing, etc.…I’m learning so much from everyone. And I’m super excited to continue on this journey with WAVY TV 10!
