PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – As my second week at WAVY comes to a close, I find it important to reflect on my experience here thus far. To begin with, I’d like to personally thank Stephanie Cooke for offering me the internship position and opportunity to work alongside such a great department. On that note, I would also like to thank the entirety of the promotions team within creative services for being so welcoming and easygoing when it came to showing me the ropes.
Being in the creative services department, I’ve been able to shadow some of the most imaginative individuals and understand the importance of their contributions. The creative services department itself is composed of both commercial production and promotions (I’m mainly a part of promotions). This past Thursday, I was able to work with the other half of creative services and oversee the commercial production process when it came to arranging the set, preparing lighting, and interviewing the guests. Having watched so many commercials, it was captivating to get a behind-the-scenes look and take everything in.
Additionally, just on my second day here, I was able to put together and edit a video that aired on TV. Being able to watch a video that I made myself airing on TV wasn’t something that I expected to see so soon. Nonetheless, I was delighted by the experience and hope that there’s more opportunities to refine my editing chops for the duration of my internship here at WAVY. The video itself was a 15-second spot for The Hampton Roads Show. I’m grateful for Antonio showing me the fundamentals of Adobe Premiere Pro, as I was then able to crank out that spot in a swift manner.
Overall, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my experience here at WAVY so far and am looking forward to the coming months for more involvement.
