PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — I can’t believe I am halfway through my internship. I have grown so much as a professional. When I first walk through the doors at WAVY, I thought I knew the career path I wanted to take, but now I am headed in a new direction.
You never know where The Hampton Roads Show will take place. July 4 weekend, HRS took over the Rivers Casino in Portsmouth. Chirs was live the whole show. I learned how to field produce and communicate with the director back at the station.
The past week and a half, I have been perfecting my skills in running cameras and teleprompter. I ran cameras from B block all the way to end of the show! Darly set my shots for me, and I was ready to roll. I was nervous at first because I did not want to miss any shots in the rundown, but I nailed it. I also ran teleprompter for the midday show and surprisingly I enjoyed it. I don’t run prompter just for talent, but the director too. It is neat to see how all the roles all tie in together.
My favorite part of the week was the lunch and learning with Stephanie and all the other interns. The meeting was so impactful because in that moment I realized I want to work in production. I enjoy working behind the scenes for The Hampton Roads Show. I never thought I would want to pursue a career outside of broadcast.
I am so excited to produce and write my own block for my final project. I am going to produce a community connection segment with the help of my colleagues.
