Intern Diary #3: Stepping outside the box (my cubicle)

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — I assume I’m going to be the first intern to leave this summer. Unfortunately, I’m wrapping up sooner than expected and turning in my ID closer to the end of July.

The reason I have to leave so early is because I’m moving into a new house in college! I wish I could share my furnishing journey with my loyal intern blog readers, but I fear I can’t take you all with me.

I’ve picked up the pace here at WAVY. I’ve started to work more independently in the marketing and sales side of the station, and I’ve grown a steady routine.

These past few weeks I’ve branched into other departments. I’ve been a little cooped up in my cubicle and I’ve been getting a little too comfortable. I had the pleasure of shadowing “The Hampton Roads Show” and shadowing the Midday show with Kenisha. It’s interesting learning all the different departments that create the well-oiled machine that airs the news. There are so many colorful buttons; it makes me want to click them all.

We had our intern lunch and learn last week where we talked about how our internships are coming to a close. Stephanie shared plenty of tips and tricks how we can use everything we’ve learned to drive our future careers.

My final project as a WAVY intern is making a fake “Something in the Water” festival and creating my own graphics of the lineups and events. I’ll also be creating a sales package for sponsors and other collaborators for my faux Pharrell festival.

Another selfie to soothe you all.
