Blog: A chilly blast to end the week

Today is going to be a bit of an early taste of Winter. Temps won’t be super cold, but it will be some of the coldest air we’ll have felt in months. This morning we had wind chills in the 20s and 30s.

Wind Chills This Morning

It wasn’t super windy nor super cold, but it was definitely a day for the Winter coats or jackets. We have a cold front streaming quickly offshore. There is a weak low offshore as well. However, there is a stronger/bigger low to the north.

Regional Weather Map

Notice that there is some snow falling to our north up in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. High pressure is to our west. There is also an upper-level low, that you can’t see, just to our north. Today the upper-level low will create increasing clouds in our region. There may also be some isolated rain showers forming during the late afternoon into the evening. There is a little better chance for a few rain showers north of the metro. The current synoptic setup will create breezy west winds through the day. Gusts will be up to 25ph at times.

Wind Gusts Forecast

This will be a chilly wind. So high temps will aim for near 50 degrees this afternoon.

Forecast Temps Today

However, the wind chills will be in the low-mid 40s during that time.

Temps VS Wind Chills

If you are headed to any Friday night football games, then you really need to bundle up. It will be chilly and breezy with temps in the 40s. Again, there may be some isolated showers or some drizzle as well. Tonight we’ll be mostly cloudy with some isolated showers and drizzle. If the showers keep going through midnight, then it’s possible that a couple of sleet pellets could mix in as well. Surface temps will be above freezing. So if that were to happen, then it would all melt.

Tonight’s forecast

Tomorrow the upper level low will still lie overhead. We’ll have partly to mostly cloudy skies, but I think we’ll be too dry for any precip. It will still be breezy with winds gusting to 25mph out of the northwest. This will keep high temps down in the mid 50s.

Forecast Temps Tomorrow

If the clouds get thicker than forecast, then we may only top off in the low 50s. Either way we should have some nice weather on Sunday.

Weekend Forecast

The forecast for Sunday is looking much better with lots of sun and less wind. Highs will be in the low 60s. We’ll have good weather for travel for the first half of next week. However, there may be some rain forming just in time for Thanksgiving. We have plenty of time to update you on that.

One last thing… If you are heading to the Grand Illumination parade on Saturday, then be sure to bundle up. Temps will be falling into the upper 40s. It will also stay fairly breezy.

Grand Illumination: Norfolk

So it may feel like it’s in the upper 30s at times. Otherwise, have fun!
