Blog: Drying out this weekend but staying breezy for a while.

Last night some of us woke up to the sound of weather alarms. We had a flare up of a broken line of showers and storms starting up around midnight.

Post Midnight Flare-Up

Within a half an hour the storms blew up and moved to the northeast. There were a couple of reports of trees down over the area, but there weren’t too many. After those storms moved out, then we had a few more showers develop.

Scattered Showers This Morning

These spotty showers this morning won’t add up to much in the rain gauge, and they should move out soon anyway. Then we’ll have a long stretch of dry weather today. A cool front is moving offshore. There is a large/strong area of low pressure up in the northeast. High pressure is to our southwest.

Regional Weather Map

The wind has been strong out of the south since yesterday. This created some minor tidal flooding over the north end of the Albemarle up into southern Virginia Beach.

Wind-Tide Flooding This Morning

This will begin to go down soon as the winds are now turning out of the west. Unfortunately, winds are still going to still be strong today. They will gust out of the west at 30mph.

Forecast Wind Gusts

These will continue into the early evening.

This is going to create some minor tidal flooding along the sound-side of the Outer Banks. It will start up by the late morning, and it will continue into the afternoon and evening.

Minor Tidal Flooding Sound-Side OBX

I mentioned that we’ll have a long stretch of dry weather. We will. However, there will be some isolated showers returning later today. High temps will be in the low 70s.

Temps Today

Tomorrow the low will linger in the northeast. High pressure will build a little closer to our region from the west. This, unfortunately, will set us up for some more wind. We’ll have a west/northwest wind at 10-20mph with more gusts to 30mph.

Wind Gusts Tomorrow

The good news is that the humidity will drop. and we’ll have lots of sunshine.

Muggy Meter

High temps will be in the upper 60s to low 70s.

Forecast Temps Tomorrow

By Sunday the winds will finally die down. We’ll have lots of sunshine with warm temps. Highs will be in the upper 70s. It should be very nice out as the humidity will still be low. However, temps and the humidity will rise next week. We’ll basically be in the 80s all week.

Temperature Trend

This will be about 10-15 degrees above average. It’s too early for me. I want a little more Spring weather. Is it too much to ask for some highs in the 60s and 70s for a while? I know warm-weather lovers will be happy.

Rainfall varied a lot lately. Most of the region only had about a tenth of an inch, but Norfolk did pick up about a half inch of rain. It was nice to get some showers, but it wasn’t the kind that does a big cleanout of the pollen. The good news is that I think the tree pollen is peaking soon if not already. That’s ahead of schedule. We’ll see what the next couple of weeks brings.

Have a good weekend!
