Blog: Let the warming begin!

This morning we bottomed out in the teens and 20s. However, this is the very bottom of the temperature hill. We’ll be climbing that hill this week.

Today we have high pressure in the region with a very dry air mass in place.

Regional Weather Map

We’ll have a lot of sunshine here with a light southwest wind. Notice that there is a lot of freezing rain over the central U.S. That will be a huge issue out there today. That is caused by warmer and more humid air pushing up into a much colder air mass. Today we’ll have some warming here with the bright sunshine and light southwest breeze. We’ll rise up into the mid 40s.

Temperature Forecast

There won’t be much wind. So wind chills should be close to the actual temperatures. Tomorrow we’ll have increasing moisture here. We’ll have a mix of sun and clouds. There may even be enough moisture for some isolated/light showers.

Future Trak (Tuesday Afternoon)

The wind will stay light and out of the southwest. So high temps will push up into the low-mid 50s.

Forecast Temps Tomorrow

The warming over the eastern half of the country is going to cause a lot of melting. There may even be some flooding in a few places to our west/northwest over the next few days caused by the melting. Snow has reached as far south as Texas and Mississippi.

Snow Depth

We won’t have to deal with that. However, we will have some of that warming. By Wednesday our high temps will reach the 50s.

Forecast Temps Wednesday

We’ll have a mix of sun and clouds with some isolated showers possible.

Future Trak (Wednesday Afternoon)

We’ll have similar weather on Thursday, but the temps will likely reach all the way up to 70 degrees. Wow!

Temperature Trend

The record for Thursday the 25th is in the upper 70s. However it will be well above average.

Temperature Departure From Average Thursday

A cold front will be approaching from the west on Friday. We’ll be ahead of it, but there will be a lot of clouds and a lot of rain. This will probably cap the temps in the 60s. We’ll have more on that in tomorrow’s weather blog.

In world news… While the United States has just had an Arctic Blast, there has been record heat in Australia. It’s Summer in the southern hemisphere, and parts of Australia are hitting the triple digits. Here is the article with more information: Extreme heat in Australia.
