Yesterday I took my mom to the Botanical Garden in Norfolk. It was a nice day with filtered sunshine and comfortable temps. The pollen was up, but I took my allergy meds. The humidity still wasn’t too bad, but it kept increasing through the evening. Now we have a lot of moisture in the region. Despite high pressure to our southeast we started the day with lots of clouds in the region and some spotty showers.
We’ll have mostly cloudy skies today. There will be a few scattered/light rain showers, but there won’t be much. We’ll have a light and steady breeze out of the southwest, but the clouds and spotty showers will cap the temps in the mid 70s.
While the weather won’t be too bad here, it is bad to our southwest where an area of low pressure is strengthening.
Severe weather has been happening across the Deep South, and it will continue to roll east today. The low won’t move directly through our region, but it will move closer to us tomorrow as it rises up into the Ohio River Valley. A cool front will push into our region by the late evening. We’ll have lots of clouds through the entire day tomorrow. However, there won’t be much rain in the morning and midday. We’ll have scattered showers and a few storms move in by the afternoon. There may be some spots of heavy rain.
The general wind will be picking up during that time. Winds gusts will be out of the south at 30mph by the mid afternoon. Then they could gust between 35 and 40mph by the evening.
So as the scattered showers and storms move through some of them could contain some strong damaging winds. Here is Future Trak in the early evening.
High temps will be in the 70s and dew points will be in the low-mid 60s. This will be some fuel for the storms, but at least the cloudy skies should help to limit the instability. So there may be some isolated severe weather tomorrow between the mid afternoon and later evening hours.
The last round of scattered storms is forecast around 11pm.
After that we should dry out into Friday morning. An upper level low may create some spotty showers again later Friday. High temps will be near 70 degrees.
We could see a half an inch up to three quarters of an inch of rainfall.
This will be the type of rainfall that washes out the pollen for a day or two, but it’s too early to have a clean vehicle for more than a day or two.
The good news is that the weekend looks very nice! We’ll be near 70 and mostly sunny on Saturday. We’ll have fair skies with highs in the mid-upper 70s on Sunday.
