Blog: Wet start to the week. Very windy Tuesday.

The day after the Super Bowl is already tough enough to get out the door and go to work. However, this morning it was salt in the wound as we had fog, drizzle, and a few rain showers.

Scattered Showers And Clouds This Morning

There is a stationary front just to our south today with an area of low pressure to the west.

Regional Weather Map

The low will creep along the front during the day, but it won’t arrive here until this evening. We’ll have one round of showers this morning with increasing rain showers again later in the day.

Future Trak Early Evening

We’ll be cloudy all day as overunning moisture produces clouds and some rain. However, surface winds won’t be strong today. They’ll be light and out of the east. Temperatures will rise to the low 50s.

Forecast Temps Today

Rain will increase this evening as the low moves into the region. In fact… We’ll likely have some heavy rain and thunderstorms overnight as the low slides east.

Future Trak (Late Evening)

Temps will rise overnight as the winds pick up out of the southeast. So tomorrow morning our temps will be near 60 degrees just before sunrise, but temps will fall through the afternoon.

Forecast Temps Tomorrow Morning
Forecast Temps Tomorrow Afternoon

There will be a few showers around in the morning, but there won’t be much. Then we’ll only have an isolated shower or two in the afternoon as the low moves out to sea. However, the wind will be a different story. Winds will rev up behind the low. The gusts will be up to 35mph from the mid morning through the mid afternoon. There may be a few gusts to 40mph as well.

Future Trak (Wind Forecast)
Wind Gusts Forecast

The wind will decrease by the end of the day. As far as rainfall goes… We could see a half inch to an inch of rain before it ends. Most of that will be late tonight.

Rainfall Forecast

We just picked up about 0.5″ to 1.5″ of rain over the last couple of days. So there could be some isolated flooding tonight. Luckily most of us will be sleeping as that happens. With the strong wind tomorrow out of the west/northwest there will likely be some minor tidal flooding along the sound-side of the Outer Banks.

Sound Side Flooding Tomorrow

Luckily, the weather will quiet down for Valentine’s day. We’ll be mostly sunny. However, it will be chilly. High temps will only be in the upper 40s. We’ll be dry and cool Thursday and Friday.
