Blog: Winds and tides decreasing.

Yesterday we had some winds gusting to near 40mph along the Outer Banks. It was chilly and breezy all day in Hampton Roads. However, today the winds and tides will be going down. The offshore low has made more progress to the east. It is now actually close to Bermuda. High pressure is edging east.

Regional Weather Map

It was a little breezy this morning, but it wasn’t too bad. Gusts were between 15 and 20mph. We will have some breeziness near the shore today, but winds are going to decrease through the afternoon.

Wind Gusts Forecast

There was some ocean overwash this morning over the Outer Banks. However, vehicles were still able to get through.

There was also some minor tidal flooding over the Chesapeake Bay. It came in lower than forecast by a few inches. So it was only a little higher than yesterday’s highest tide.

High Tide Forecast

The next few high tides shouldn’t pose much of a problem except for some isolated areas.

We only had some scattered clouds near the coast, and that’s about all we’ll have today. Otherwise skies will be mostly sunny. High temps will only make it to the mid 40s. Wind chills will be in the 30s until about the mid afternoon.

Temperature And Wind Chill Forecast

Tomorrow high pressure will build into the region. We’ll have some pretty nice weather. High temps will rise to the low 50s.

Temperature Forecast Tomorrow

We’ll be mostly sunny with a light east wind. We’ll be even better on Friday. Skies will be partly cloudy. High temps will make it to near 60 or the low 60s.

Temperature Forecast Friday

The whole eastern half of the country will be mild.

After that the models are going back and forth for rain chances on Saturday. The NAM model still keeps Friday dry, but the GFS model shows a few rain showers in the afternoon. I’ve got a low chance for a few showers for now, but maybe the forecast will dry up before we get there. High temps will be in the 60s. So hopefully, there will be a good amount of time to be able to get outside and enjoy the temps.

Temperature Trend

Regardless of the possible rain late Saturday, there is a pretty good chance for rain Sunday morning.

GFS Model Sunday Morning

I’m hoping that the rain will taper off in the afternoon, but we’ll see. Either way high temps will be in the upper 50s. There may be an even bigger system that will bring us rain and wind on Monday. I’ll talk more about that possibility in tomorrow’s weather blog.
