SAN DIEGO (Border Report) — An estimated 300 people gathered at Larsen Field, a city park less than a mile from the U.S.-Mexico border, for a “Take Our Border Back’ rally Saturday morning.
Many showed up with American flags and stood in front of a stage where several speakers talked about the need for better border security.
They also attacked President Joe Biden for not doing enough to stem the flow of undocumented migrants across the southern border.
“What’s so important about this event is that it’s really about taking our border back,” said Kim Yeater, organizer of the rally.
She talked about people coming together with the same goal in mind.
“People here are the mama bears, the daddy bears, people from every ethnicity, it’s not right, it’s not left, they are from everywhere, we’ve got the truckers, we’ve got business owners we’ve got people who love freedom.”
Yeater says they are all concerned with “the lack of border security.”
“Why are we doing this, we have to protect our borders, if we do not have a border we don’t have a nation.”
Yeater said she fears if the borders aren’t secured, the U.S. will be in trouble.
“When you have people from 160 countries coming over our border, they’re men of fighting age, that’s a problem,” Yeater said. “We’re all about safe legal immigration, safety from the inside out let’s keep the children safe, keep all of us safe, and we’re speaking for the migrants too.”
Yeater said the group is not made up of racists, but people who truly love their country, and people who don’t have a problem with the migrants themselves.
“They are being brutalized, they are being raped, they are being played by the cartels, that is wrong. This is a humanitarian crisis we are not hating people, but we have to take care of our own first then we can take care of the rest.”
The rally itself lasted more than two hours.
Upon its completion, most got into their cars and trucks and drove to Yuma, Arizona, 160 miles east of San Diego.
Leading up to the weekend, some migrant advocates considered a counter-demonstration, but it did not take place.
