EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) — Border officers confiscated a dozen semi-automatic rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition that were headed into Mexico from Arizona on Tuesday.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said officers were conducting outbound inspections — vehicles heading south into Mexico — at the Raul H. Castro Port of Entry in Douglas, Arizona, where they encountered a 25-year-old U.S. citizen in a Chevrolet Suburban.
The driver was chosen to undergo further inspection, which led to the discovery of several boxes containing 12 AR-15 rifles, a handgun, eight ammunition magazines and 26,553 rounds of ammunition.
According to a CBP news release, officers seized the weapons, ammunition, and vehicle, while the subject was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
