VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – The community came together to hold a vigil Monday night for 8-year-old Landyn Davis, who was shot in the head at his Virginia Beach home.

Landyn, who is in a medically-induced coma at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD), was shot in the head after police say someone fired 20 rounds into his home last Tuesday. A stray bullet hit Landyn while he was playing video games.

The Feb. 19 prayer vigil was held in the grassy field behind CHKD in Norfolk. It was open to the public.

Amanda Smith organized the prayer circle. She said she does not know the family, but wants them to know they have the support of their community.

“I just can’t imagine him being an innocent bystander to gun violence and it’s just ridiculous. The whole act is senseless,” Smith said. “We will continue to pray for Landyn; we want justice for Landyn.”

Virginia Beach police are still investigating this incident and have created an anonymous digital portal to help located the suspects.

A GoFundMe has also been started to help with expenses related to Landyn.
