PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – A Hampton Roads girl’s empowerment organization is looking for young ladies to join the Princess For A Day program.

The six month program is for girls 3 to 15-years-old.

“We do the positive affirmations. We also teach etiquette and poise because we want our girls to be able to adapt to every environment and different settings,” executive director Coressa Williams said. “So when they go out to the fancy restaurants, they are prepared. They know the table do’s and don’ts.”

Williams said the program is eight years strong and has served more than 500 girls throughout Hampton Roads, Richmond, Maryland and Raleigh. According to Williams, Hampton Roads has had the largest amount of participants.

“We can take a girl that may be a little introverted, may be a little shy, but put her in a place where she’s comfortable to begin to speak a little bit, participate in the social aspects. And we found out that it causes that personality to emerge,” Williams said.

The program also includes a red carpet event and a fashion show.

Williams said leadership skills are one of the most important assets a young girl can have.

“You’re not just a pretty face. You’re going to understand about being a role model. Being a good student. Definitely can’t be a mean girl or a bully. All of these are different phases where we know that it transcends to every part of their life,” she said.

The next Princess For A Day season starts this summer. Williams said girls and their guardians can register by going to www.princessforadayoutreach.com.
