VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — When Farm Fresh closed its stores in the region, 28-year-old Stephen Todd found himself out of work.

The Virginia Beach residents has Down Syndrome, so it’s not always easy to find work. That’s when he and his family came up with the idea of turning a hobby into a way to help others.

Todd and his family love to watch birds, mostly bluebirds. They are the inspiration for Bluebird Beach Bungalows: birdhouses made from reclaimed wood and decorated with sea glass or shells.

Each month, proceeds from the sales of the birdhouses go to a different organization that helps people with intellectual or developmental disabilities. This month, donations are going to the Down Syndrome Association of Hampton Roads. Each one is $15.
