NOTE: When the WAVY viewing area is under a threat of or the throws of severe weather, we will provide a LIVE stream of our Super Doppler 10 meteorologists’ coverage on this page. When we are live, a video player will appear below.

To keep you and your family safe, here are some 10 On Your Side Severe Weather Tips:

WHAT DOES A WATCH OR WARNING MEAN?

WATCH: Conditions are favorable for severe weather to occur. Remain weather aware, and have a way to get weather alerts via an app, like our FREE WAVY Weather App or TV coverage.

WARNING: Severe weather is occurring or expected to occur soon. Act now! For a tornado warning, this means rotation has been indicated by radar or a tornado has been spotted.

WHERE SHOULD I GO IN A TORNADO WARNING?

The safest place to be during severe weather, including tornadoes is on the lowest floor of your home in an interior room. In most homes, that would be a hallway, bathroom or closet. Put as many walls between you and the outside as possible. Protect your head from flying debris with a helmet, pillow or blanket. Turn up the TV audio or watch our live stream to know when it’s safe to come out of your shelter.

If you live in a mobile or manufactured home, you need to move to a more substantial shelter nearby.

Severe Thunderstorms can produce gusty, damaging winds, hail and sometimes tornadoes. A Severe T-storm Warning is issued when winds of over 58 mph are possible and/or 1″ hail is expected. Not everywhere in the warning may see severe weather, but you should remain alert and seek shelter indoors especially if you hear thunder or see lightning.

FLASH FLOODS

Flash Flood Warnings are issued when flooding is expected or occurring. Do not drive your vehicle into flood waters. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Stay out of flood waters to avoid the hazards they can carry.

After the storm, if you see severe weather damage in your area, you can submit pictures or videos to us by going to wavy.com/report-it
