NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The Waterside District tried to make a big splash Monday with an announcement about a waterslide coming to the downtown entertainment venue this summer.

They created a Facebook event for the grand opening on Labor Day weekend and provided the following details:

Get ready Norfolk, BigSplash is coming to Waterside District this Summer!🌊 Who’s ready to slide?!

The 144-foot water slide features 2 unique routes, which are powered by a state of the art water filtration system, pumping out over 1.2 million gallons of water per hour.

Riders can reach top speeds of 60 miles per hour on the adventure course, or the more family oriented sidewinder at a leisurely 15 miles per hour. Construction is scheduled to begin May 1st, with an anticipated opening Memorial Day Weekend.

We’ll see you this Summer!😎

If the 144-foot slide seems to good or big to be true, well it is. The image uploaded to the page shows a rudimentary drawing of a neon green waterslide structure that spits riders out into the Elizabeth River.

The April Fools’ joke duped a few folks.
