Richmond-based company to mark grand opening in Va. Beach with free ice cream

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A Richmond-based ice cream company is serving up free scoops of frozen cheer at the grand opening of their location in Hilltop West on Friday.

Steve Rosser and his wife, Kim, the owners of Gelati Celesti, have an everlasting love for Virginia Beach. It’s where Rosser spent his family vacations as a child — and where he and Kim took their own children when they were young.

So he says Virginia Beach was a natural choice when the couple decided to expand beyond the lines of the capital city, where they currently have five stores.

The Hilltop store, on First Colonial Road, will feature 24 house flavors of their artisanal ice cream, as well as rotating flavors, ice cream cakes, pies and cookies, according to their press release.

The ice cream is handcrafted in small batches using Italian equipment that minimizes the air whipped into the product, according to their Facebook. The result: a thick and creamy ice cream with lots of flavor.

The grand opening starts at noon on Friday, and they’ll be open until 11 p.m. The store’s regular hours will be Sunday through Thursday from noon to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday noon to 11 p.m.
