PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Volunteers in Portsmouth are scheduled to hold their third Coldest Night of the Year 5K Walk & Fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 24.
The event is set to be held at the Portsmouth Seawall hosted by Portsmouth Volunteers for the Homeless. The fundraising walk is intended to raise awareness for funding needed to support the people experiencing homelessness.
Check in begins around 4 p.m. and individuals have a send-off at 5 p.m. Participants have the option of a 2K or 5K route, and can enjoy a cup of Chili upon finishing their walk.
This event takes place across the entire United States and Canada in various cities as thousands walk together in chilly nights as a reminder of what homeless people experience, a release states.
“We have been sheltering throughout COVID-19, with no interruptions in service, that’s 1,564 nights,” Darlene Sparks Washington, PVH Executive Director, said. “Events like this one help us replenish our financial resources to continue serving.”
