Norfolk
Back to School Event at the Virginia Zoo
Saturday, Aug. 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Virginia Zoo; free with general zoo admission
Celebrate before school goes back in session at the Virginia Zoo. There will be local community organizations, family resources, a book fair and more. And, it marks the end to the summer School Supplies Donation Drive. Find out ways to donate and win prizes here.
Sunsets on the River Concert Series
Thursday, Aug. 1 at 5:30 p.m. at the Hermitage Museum & Gardens; Tickets required for guests over 10 and non-members
The summer concert series continues with Request Station playing this week. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the performance begins at 6 p.m. and continues to 9 p.m. Enjoy beverages, local food trucks, visit the summer exhibition on-site and more. Guests are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to relax and listen to the show.
12th Annual Fuse Fest
Saturday, Aug. 3 from noon to 7 p.m. at Purpose Park, 801 Church Street; Free and open to the public
Fuse Fest is celebrating life and culture in Norfolk! It is hosted by Teens with a Purpose. It brings together art, music and culture to bring the community together. Enjoy the day with live entertainment, food art making and more.
Portsmouth
First Fridays Concerts in the Courtyard presents Wards Pocket
Friday, Aug. 2 in the evening at the Portsmouth Art & Cultural Center courtyard; Free and open to all
Watch Wards Pocket perform in the courtyard at the free Friday night concert. There will be free admission to the Portsmouth Art & Cultural Center. Adult beverages will be available. The First Friday Art Market will be open to shop and support local artisans and authors.
Coast Guard Cutter 10K, 5K, and 15K Combo
Saturday, Aug. 3 starting at 7 a.m. at Portsmouth Pavilion Park; Registration required
Run or support racers in the Coast Guard Cutter 5K, 10K and 15K combination run. For kids, check out the Sea Otter Kids 1/4 Mile Dash. Registration and spots are still available. Runs are also stroller friendly. The first run kicks off at 7 a.m. Click here to find out more.

9th Annual Amazing Peanut Chase
Saturday, Aug. 3 from 1-4:30 p.m. at Morgan Memorial Library; Team registration required, Free and open to all
The citywide scavenger hunt begins at Morgan Memorial Library. Road trip across Suffolk solving clues in the 9th year of the Amazing Peanut Chase. The chase will take you around Suffolk’s neighborhoods and businesses. Meet amazing people and learn more about the city along the way. It is open for all ages. You must have your own transportation. The day ends at the Suffolk Visitor Center for the after-party.
Virginia Beach
Show Me Reptile Show & Pet Expo
On Aug. 3-4 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center; Tickets are required
Check out the super show this weekend! Get to know reptiles and pets up close! VIP entry and general admission ticket are available. Discounts are available for certain identifications and ages. Kids 6 and under are free.
