VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — With heavy rain and high winds expected this weekend, organizers of several local events have adjusted their schedules. We’ll continue to update this post if we hear from any more.
According to WAVY Meteorologist Ricky Matthews, an area of low pressure is expected to slide into our region Friday night into Saturday that will bring a lot of rain.
Cherry Blossom Festival | Virginia Beach
This Saturday, March 23 and Sunday, March 24, the Cherry Blossom Festival events at Red Wing Park in Virginia Beach are canceled.
The city of Virginia Beach made the decision on Wednesday to cancel this weekend’s Cherry Blossom Festival activities, based on the current forecast.
The Virginia Beach Parks & Rec Cherry Blossom Festival is an 8-day event. Next week’s events from March 25-30 are expected to resume as scheduled.

Last year’s Cherry Blossom activities on the first Saturday were also canceled because of the forecast.
Don’t Sit on Colon Cancer 5K & Survivor Walk | Virginia Beach
Due to the impending inclement weather, the Don’t Sit on Colon Cancer 5K & Survivor Walk scheduled for Saturday, March 23 at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital in Virginia Beach has been postponed to Sunday, April 14.
Carousel Re-Opening Ceremony | Hampton
Due to the forecast and significant wind expected on Saturday, the re-opening ceremony for the Hampton Carousel has been postponed until April 6. The ceremony will last from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The carousel will remain open for free rides on March 23, regardless of weather.
Monster X Tour | Hampton
With inclement weather expected Saturday, the organizers of the Monster X Tour, which is taking over the Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway in Hampton this weekend, have decided to add a Sunday performance at 2 p.m. All tickets purchased for any of the Hampton shows will be honored for any show on Saturday OR Sunday.
Eggstravaganza Event | Suffolk
Due to weather, Suffolk Parks & Recreation has adjusted the location of Saturday’s Eggstravaganza event. The free event will now be held indoors at the Creekside Recreation Center, located at 1000 Bennetts Creek Park Rd., on Saturday, March 23, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Peter Cottontail is expected to arrive at 11:15 a.m. Egg Hunts will be held at 12 p.m., 12:30 p.m., and 1 p.m. Get updates on Facebook.
Recycling Drive & Tire Amnesty Day | Suffolk
Due to anticipated inclement weather, Keep Suffolk Beautiful is postponing its Recycling Drive and Tire Amnesty Day scheduled for Saturday, March 23, 2024. The new date will be Saturday, May 11 from 9 a.m. until noon at 800 Carolina Road. Recycling Drives are held throughout the year to give residents the opportunity to bring special items that can’t be discarded through regular curbside pickup.
