AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Eleven cows were killed in a three-vehicle crash that occurred Monday morning in Augusta County.
According to Virginia State Police, at around 11:40 a.m. on Monday, April 1, a Lincoln Nautilus was driving north on Interstate 81 and tried to pass a Kenworth W900 tractor-trailer on its right side.
The Lincoln hit the tractor-trailer, which was hauling cattle, causing the tractor-trailer to veer to the right side and hit a Nissan Pathfinder.
The tractor-trailer and Nissan then both ran off the road on the right and the tractor-trailer overturned.
Police said the Lincoln ran off the interstate on the left side of the northbound lanes.
The driver of the Lincoln, 56-year-old Tonya S. Cleveland, of Augusta County, was not injured. He was cited for making an unsafe lane change.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, 69-year-old Dewey B. Emswiler, of Shenandoah County, had minor injuries.
The driver of the Nissan was not injured. All drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
Eleven cows were killed in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
