YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – A high school student in York County is facing disciplinary action for bringing a box cutter and a BB gun into the school, according to a spokesperson for York County Public Schools.
School officials sent home communication to families about the April 11 incident at Bruton High School. WAVY obtained a copy of the message from Principal Aaron McQuillan.
“I am calling to share information with you regarding an incident which occurred in our school today. Around 1 this afternoon, school administrators were contacted with a report of a social media post indicating a student possibly having a weapon on campus. We immediately initiated the division’s safety and investigation protocols, including coordinating with our School Resource Officer.
As a result of this investigation, we found an 11th grade student in possession of a box cutter and BB gun. This student will face disciplinary measures in accordance with the YCSD Student Handbook and Conduct Code as well as possible criminal charges.”

The principal personally thanked the person who alerted staff about the weapons.
He sent the message to families less than an hour after the incident, according to a York County Schools spokesperson.
