21-foot snowman becomes neighborhood attraction in Prince George County

PRINCE GEORGE, Va. (WRIC) — When the snow started falling across Central Virginia Sunday, no one ever expected it would snowball into something spectacular — a snowman that’s the talk of Prince George.

He’s Frosty’s big brother — much bigger brother — and a jolly old soul made entirely out of snow by three families who dream big.

“Had a lot of shovels, a lot of kids and a lot of fortitude to complete it,” said Jason Smith.

Bringing fluffy to life was no easy task.

“Snow came and they started on it and three days later, here we go,” John Brown said. “21-foot snowman.”

Fluffy is 21 feet tall. That’s four of 8News investigative reporter Kristin Smith.

“It was a challenge. It was definitely a challenge.”

The crew hand-shoveled the snow, carted it in sleds, then used wooden scaffolding to build the supersized snowman. Now, Fluffy is a neighborhood attraction.

“It’s the biggest snowman I’ve ever seen in my life,” one resident proclaimed.

But while Fluffy might be a huge winter wonder, what these families did together was even bigger.

“We make memories by doing stuff like this,” Smith said. “We don’t make memories by leveling up on the next game, sending the tweets out to our friends. That stuff is really temporary. I think this makes really good memories for kids.”

And when the snow eventually brings Fluffy down? The families plan to go “go bigger, go higher and just go for it next time.”
