VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Police are thanking three men for their fast actions to save a woman from her burning car.
Police say a woman was driving on I-264 near First Colonial last week when she had a medical emergency and drove off the interstate.
Richard Hobbs saw it happen.
“I was going around the corner there, watched the car pretty much go straight ahead off the side of the road, go behind the guard rail and pinball down through the trees,” said Hobbs.
Police say the car immediately burst into flames.
“I pulled over, jumped the guard rail ran down the side she was slumped over into the passenger’s side,” he said.
Hobbs says his adrenaline was pumping and he knew what he had to do.
“There was no way I was going to watch her burn,” he said.
Hobbs says he and others, quickly worked to get the woman from her burning car.
“Once we got ready to get her out, we get her out take her to the top and set her down, and the car was so bad in flames at the time that we moved her about 150 yards down the road in case it blew up,” said Hobbs.
Hobbs says looking back, he wasn’t really thinking about what was happening, he just did what he knew was right.
