PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Four people and two pets were forced out of their home after it was damaged in fire Tuesday morning.

Portsmouth fire officials said crews responded to the 1100 block of Alcindor Road after dispatchers received reports of a fire just after 6:30 a.m.

Officials said responding units found heavy fire was venting vertically through the roof.

The flames were brought under control by 8:30 a.m., officials said. No one was injured.

The four people displaced — two adults and two children — as well as two pets are being assisted by the Red Cross.

A preliminary investigation found the fire was accidental, but officials said a more in-depth investigation will be conducted over the coming days.
