SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Seven adults were forced from their homes after a two-story duplex caught fire Tuesday evening in Suffolk.
Suffolk officials said firefighters responded to Cullodan Street — in the South Suffolk neighborhood — just after 5 p.m.
Responding units found heavy smoke from back of the first floor. All the residents of the duplex were outside the home when firefighters arrived, officials said.
Firefighters got the fire under control just before 5:30 p.m., and contained it to the first floor of the duplex. Both units of the duplex suffered smoke damage in the fire, officials said.
The seven residents who were displaced are being assisted by the Red Cross.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
