CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Seven people are displaced from their homes after a fire damaged three apartment units Saturday afternoon.

Chesapeake fire officials say they were dispatched to the Adalay Bay apartments for a fire around 4:20 p.m. The complex is located near N. Battlefield Boulevard.

When they arrived on the scene, they found a three-story apartment building on Sabal Palm Lane with smoke coming from the back of it. The building was evacuated and the sprinkler system had activated to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters shut down the sprinkler system to keep it from damaging other units in the building.

The cause of the fire was cooking related, officials say. No one was injured.

Management at the complex is working to assist the residents that were displaced, according to fire officials.
