Abandoned house fire in Portsmouth leaves firefighter with minor injury

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A firefighter with Portsmouth Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services was transported to a local hospital after they suffered a minor injury while putting out a fire at an abandoned home. 

Fire crews responded to the fire on Sugar Creek Circle in the Churchland section of the city around 8 p.m. 


According to Deputy Chief of Operations David Harrington, they found fire coming from the first floor of the home when they arrived on the scene. 

The fire was quickly extinguished. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
