NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Attention all foodies: the Granby Station Food Hall is set to open in July.
10 On Your Side first told you about Granby Station back in September. It will be an international food hall with communal seating.
Everything at the Granby Station Food Hall is about community, even the art.
“The food hall, just like art, engages the community,” said Jasmine Oyola-Blumenthal, the artist behind the food hall’s two new murals.
Her inspiration: the diverse flavors and cultures you’ll experience inside. She said, “We’re all so diverse, we all have different friends, different food. Food brings people together and I just thought making this quirky, fun abstracted figures and stuff, people can find something in there to relate to.”
One of the lead developers, Robert Barnuevo, says things are moving along.
“We’ve just completed demolition,” Barnuevo said. “We are working on getting the floors done by grinding them down, we are waiting on approval from city planning to give us the OK, at which point we’ll move forward with building out.”

They’re all set with the food vendors. Barnuevo said there will be Indian street food, Mexican street tacos, Cuban food, Korean food, Fillipino food and dessert, poutine, vegan food, a coffee bar, and a full alcoholic bar.
But it’s not just about the food, it’s about the people who will be sitting next to you.
Barnuevo said, “Sit down next to someone, next thing you know, you’re talking to them, you’re having a conversation, you’ve made a new friend.”
New friends and new food — an idea the developers and the artist hope you’ll embrace.
“Anything that can bring people together no matter the age, no matter the race, I think that is, every city, every town, every place needs that,” said Oyola-Blumenthal.
Their goal is to open in early July.
