LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — House Republicans have introduced a bill in Congress that would rename Washington Dulles International Airport, located in Sterling, Virginia, near D.C., to “Donald J. Trump International Airport.”
According to the airport’s website, it’s currently named after the late Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, which came in 1984, before which it was dedicated by President John F. Kennedy in 1962.
U.S. Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-Pennsylvania) introduced the bill on Friday, March 29, and it is co-sponsored by six other Republican U.S. representatives.
“One of Trump’s first acts as president was a racist Muslim ban that blocked permanent American residents from their own country,” U.S. Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.) wrote on X. “I went to Dulles to try to help innocent people caught up in the chaos. I remember grandparents detained for hours as their terrified families waited.”
Rep. Beyer added that House Republicans “know Dulles will never be renamed after Trump,” but it’s not the point. “Again, that’s not the point, the point is to suck up to their Dear Leader,” he wrote.
