Today’s weather is looking good. We are going to have a lot of sunshine, and temps will warm up to near 50 degrees. High pressure is nearby, but a cool front will move in late in the day from the northwest.
Winds will be light and out of the southwest during they day. They will turn to out of the northwest by the evening. We won’t have any precip as the front sinks in.
Tomorrow high temps drop to the mid 40s with a mix of sun and clouds. The front will sit to our south through the daytime. The front will push back north as a warm front Thursday evening. This may produce a few showers. A few of those could continue into Friday morning. Then we’ll be dry for the rest of Friday with highs in the mid 50s. We’ll be mild with clouds on Saturday.
Then comes Sunday…
During the day Sunday, we’ll have a deep warm southerly flow for a while. This will give us a lot of moisture and rain with high temperutures aiming for the upper 50s to low 60s.
This will be ahead of a powerful cold front. That front will move through during the afternoon. Temperatures will crash behind it. It will be cold enough for the precipitation to briely changeover to a wet snow or a wintry mix.
The models are in better agreement about this (generally). They show mainly rain with a small window of that frozen precipitation. I mentioned yesterday that the odds are that this will mostly or all melt. While temps will crash, they will probably still be above freezing until the drier air arrives. Plus, the ground will be warm and soaked. However, this sets up a potential bigger problem than snow…ice!
Temps will fall so fast that it could allow for a flash freeze to occur during Sunday night. That is just as it sounds. It’s a quick freeze of the water that is on the ground. So we could start Monday morning with icy conditions in the region. Luckily, it is a holiday for many, but not everyone.
Temps will likely start in the low 20s Monday morning. High temperatures will probably only rise to the low 30s. So we will be tracking this, but keep it all in mind if you have plans for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Stay tuned for updates!
