Today’s weather is going to be quiet and cooler, but things will change into the weekend. This morning we have a cool front stalling out to our south.
We’ll have a northast breeze with a mix of sun and clouds today. High temps will be in the mid 40s. The front will lift back north as a warm front tonight. We’ll have some scattered light rain showers, and some sleet pellets are even possible.
After a stray shower early tomorrow morning we’ll gradually clear out. It will be a nice day as winds turn out of the southwest and temps warm to the mid 50s. We’ll stay warm on Saturday. Highs temps will be in the mid 50s with a mix of sun and clouds. One change that happened since yesterday is that the models are now showing a few showers moving in by Saturday evening.
By Sunday morning we’ll have lots of rain in the region, and this will continue into the early afternoon. Snow will stay way off to our west through that time.
Then a strong cold front will move through during the afternoon. Temperatures will crash. We’ll rise to the mid (maybe upper) 50s through midday. Then temps will fall fast in the afternoon. However, I think they will stay above freezing until the precip ends. We may have a brief changeover to a wet snow or a wintry mix, but I think it will mostly or all melt.
The GFS model is similar, but dries us out faster. So there is even less of a window for any wintry precipitation.
Both models dry us out by Sunday night. Temperatures are forecast to fall to the low 20s. This sets us up for a potential problem. There will be a lot of water around from the Sunday rain and the possible melting mix. This will all likely freeze Sunday night into Monday morning. That is unless it can evaporate first. This will create a flash flreeze. So there may be a good amount of ice on the roads Monday morning. Luckily it’s a holiday for most, but it could pose a big problem for those that do go to work. It will also be a problem for folks heading to Martin Luther King Jr. Day events. We still have some time to track this, and bring you updates. We’ll be dry Monday through Tuesday. Temps will warm to the 40s by Tuesday, and possibly to the 50s on Wednesday.
