SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Court documents detail new information in the case of a mother believed by police to have been abducted from her Newsoms home two weeks ago.
Cynthia Carver was reported missing from her Everett Street home on Feb. 22 by her mother, Anne. Carver was last seen around 9 p.m. on Feb. 21 when she dropped her children off at a babysitter’s on nearby Thomaston Road, said Southampton County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Camden Cobb.
The children were going to stay with a babysitter because Carver was supposed to report to her new job as a corrections officer at the Deerfield Correctional Center on the morning of Feb. 22; however, she never showed up for work, Cobb said.
Anne Carver stopped by her daughter’s home that afternoon when she couldn’t get in touch with the 34-year-old, Cobb said.
Inside the home, Anne Carver found blood in multiple places on the carpet and “a pool of blood by the rear door,” court documents state.
Anne Carver also discovered a bloody knife in her daughter’s living room, according to court documents.
Deputies arrived at Carver’s home around 1 p.m. and found more blood: On Carver’s driveway and on sheets and clothing inside the home, Cobb confirmed.
Although there were no signs of forced entry, there were signs of a struggle in one part of the home. Cobb would not elaborate on which part of the house the struggle may have happened.
Cobb said that a “significant” number of items were taken during the deputies’ search of Carver’s home. According to court documents, some of those items included DNA evidence, clothing, the knife, a 4-door Chevy, and a yellow Amazon tablet with the name “C. Carver” written on the back in black magic marker.
Officials have received data analysis from the Amazon tablet and are working through any evidence that it may have contained.
Police have spoken to “numerous” people, but haven’t narrowed their suspect pool down to a single person. Through search warrants they were able to determine that she was in Norfolk and Portsmouth the day she was reported missing, Cobb said.
Cobb would not comment on any communication Carver may have had with friends or family between dropping her children off with the babysitter and her mother reporting her missing. He said the family overheard that she was supposed to meet a male that they did not know on the night of Feb. 21, but could not confirm whether or not that meeting happened.
Deputies are searching for a silver Chrysler — potentially a Chrysler 200 — seen leaving from Carver’s home the night she disappeared.
