YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Fire investigators have determined an electrical issue sparked the fire that destroyed a boat in York County Friday.
The York County Department of Fire and Life Safety responded to the boat fire around 10 a.m., in the 1000 block of Wormley Creek Drive in the Marlbank Subdivision. The county dispatched units from two stations and the department’s fire and rescue boat to the scene.
Upon arrival, fire and rescue report they found the boat along the shore line that was “fully involved” with fire. The fire department says that the boat fire was brought under control quickly and they implemented tactics to prevent further spread of fire to other boats, piers, and the shore vegetation in the area.
The Virginia Department of Emergency Management and the U.S. Coast Guard were also at the scene as well as coordination with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.
York County Fire and Life Safety also operated a drone in the area to observe any potential spread of debris or fuel contaminates in the surrounding environment.
The boat involved is said to be a “total loss” by York County Fire and Life Safety.
