CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Friday marks a painful milestone for a Chesapeake family: one year since the only suspect arrested in connection to Cedric Towe’s murder got out of jail.
The charges against her were dropped and none have been filed since.
“We’re trying to keep the case on everybody’s mind and get justice for my son,” said Charles Towe. “Hopefully, someone will come forward with some information.”
Nearly three years ago, Towe dropped his son Cedric off at the 7-Eleven on Georgetown Boulevard. He was supposed to go meet a girl.
Not long after, Towe got a call from a family member, asking when he had last talked to his son.
“They called me back and they said, ‘Hey Charles, go check on Cedric because I think something went wrong,'” Towe said. “By the time I got there the police already had the whole thing taped off.”
At 21 years old, Cedric was gone, shot and killed in an alley. Police say someone lured him to his death by posing as a woman on social media.
Whoever did it stole his earrings, watch and cell phone.
His uncle Jerry still can’t wrap his head around who would kill his nephew, or why.
“I can’t believe anyone would want to do this to him. People would come up to me and say, ‘Hey man, your nephew’s real good, he loaned me $10, he made sure my family had something to eat,'” Jerry Towe said. “He basically helped everybody out. Why would you want to do that to him?”
Eight months after the murder, police arrested a woman on robbery charges. 10 On Your Side is not naming her, because a year later, the Commonwealth’s attorney said it didn’t have enough evidence to pursue charges.
To this day, no other suspects have been named, and no one has been arrested. But Cedric is still gone, and his family still wants justice.
“We’re having faith in the Chesapeake Police Department to show us the right road to go on, because after that, there’s nothing left but the wrong road,” Jerry Towe said.
Chesapeake police say they’ve exhausted every lead, which means it’s now in the cold case division. But the Towe family refuses to let the prospect of justice go.
“There are too many people in Chesapeake who know and aren’t saying anything,” Jerry Towe said. “If you know something, say something. It’s only fair.”
