PORTMSOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Several police departments across Hampton Roads are talking with neighbors in a casual setting on Wednesday as a part of National Coffee with a Cop Day.

According to the official website, Coffee with a Cop started in Hawthorne, California in 2011 when officers were looking for ways to interact with members of the community.

Coffee with a Cop events are now held in departments across all 50 states.

Here’s a list of local Coffee with a Cop events:

HAMPTON

  • Krispy Kreme Doughnuts: 3400 W. Mercury Boulevard, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

NORFOLK

  • Coaster Coffee on 8418 Tidewater Drive from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. 

CHESAPEAKE

  • Starbucks: 809 Eden Way North from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

VIRGINIA BEACH

Virginia Beach police have Coffee with a Cop events scheduled for Wednesday:

  • Starbucks: 701 Lynnhaven Parkway, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Starbucks: 5232 Providence Road, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Starbucks: 241 Laskin Road, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Starbucks: 1416 N Great Neck Road, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

NEWPORT NEWS

The Newport News Police Department is holding one event in each of its precincts.

  • North Precinct: Belgian Waffle and Steak House, at 14700 Warwick Boulevard, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
  • Central Precinct: Angelo’s Steak & Pancake House, at 755 J Clyde Morris Boulevard, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
  • South Precinct: Community Room of the Piggly Wiggly, at 3101 Jefferson Avenue, from 8 a.m.- 10 a.m.
