CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Firefighters quickly extinguished a brush fire Monday afternoon in the Deep Creek area of Chesapeake.

Dispatchers first received word about the fire off Military Highway and Canal Drive around 2 p.m. after residents said they heard a loud explosion. 

Firefighters responded and found a large cloud of smoke coming from a 1-acre plot of land that was on fire. 

Officials say the crews were able to get the fire under control before any nearby structures were affected.
