FRANKLIN, Va. (WAVY) — The 10-year-old boy who was shot and killed in Franklin last August was not the intended target, court documents state.
Tashawnda Drayton, the woman accused of killing 10-year-old La’Marj Holden on Artis Street, was arraigned Monday. Drayton is charged with first-degree murder in Holden’s death, and she has also been charged with attempting to kill Michael Staten Jr. and Maurice Underdown on the day the child was shot.
Staten, according to court documents, reported to an officer that “he was shot at by an individual he knows as “23 Brazy” — a known alias of Ms. Drayton.”
Court documents also revealed that Holden was not the target of the crime.
“During a subsequent argument with Mr. Underdown, Ms. Drayton pulled out a firearm and began shooting,” court documents stated.
Drayton was arraigned on two separate sets of charges today. The ones for the shooting last Aug. 9 as well as charges for a 2022 assault.
Drayton and Underdown are both accused of assaulting a 73-year-old man, though the charges against Underdown for this case have been nolle prossed, or set aside.
