DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — Dare County deputies made a traffic stop that resulted in a drug bust.

Around 5:45 p.m. Sunday, deputies stopped a vehicle for speeding in a work zone on Highway 64 just west of the Midway Intersection.

A Dare County Sheriff’s Office K-9 was deployed during the stop and alerted deputies to a controlled substance inside the vehicle.

After searching the vehicle, deputies seized psilocybin mushrooms, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

The driver of the vehicle, Kyle Orville Laviana, 28, of West Suffield, Connecticut, was arrested and charged with felony possession of a schedule I controlled substance. He was also cited for speeding as well as possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.

Laviana was given a $4000 secured bond.
