CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) – The search for an armed robbery suspect in Currituck County ended in Chesapeake Monday afternoon.
It all began around 9:30 a.m. when the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office responded to an armed robbery in the parking lot of the Food Lion in Grandy.
According to Sheriff M.W. Beickert, a suspect armed with a 9mm handgun stole a laptop/tablet from the victim at gunpoint.
Deputies responded and pursued the suspect vehicle, a Ford Explorer truck, which they determined was stolen from Chesapeake.
Sheriff Beickert said the suspect ditched the truck after firing a round through the passenger window; he then ran into the woods by the rest area.
Deputies surrounded the area and even used SWAT and the Dare Med Flight to search for the suspect.
The suspect emerged onto the highway, where he reportedly stole a truck at gunpoint, then drove to Chesapeake where he was finally taken into custody during a foot chase.
Law enforcement did not report any injuries.
The person taken into custody is Bryant Marcus Wilkerson, 27. The sheriff’s office said he is facing a long list of charges out of both Chesapeake and Currituck County, ranging from discharging a firearm and felony eluding police.
Those charges include:
- Violation of a protective order
- 2 counts of conspire to abduct by force without justification
- 2 counts of convicted violent felon possessing or transporting a firearm
- Maliciously stab, cut or wound
- Auto theft – grand larceny
- 2 counts of conspire to rob residence
- 3 counts of using a firearm use in commission of felony – first offense
- 2 counts of abduct by force without justification 10/20/2020 12:00 AM Felony
- 2 counts of robbery of a residence
- Drive while license is revoked – first offense
- Brandish or point firearm
- Tamper, enter/set vehicle into motion, break and enter auto
- Damage to attended property, driver fails to report (less than $1000)
- Disregard police command to stop, endangerment
- Receive stolen property/goods – $200 or more
- Carjacking
