Former Hertford town councilman pleads guilty to child sex crimes

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — A former Hertford town councilman awaits sentencing for numerous child sex crimes.

Quentin Sherard Jackson, 39, of Hertford, N.C., pled guilty to one count of statutory rape, two
counts of statutory sexual offense, two counts of first-degree sexual exploitation and two counts
of taking indecent liberties with a minor child Monday morning in Pasquotank County Superior Court.

“I am so very proud of the victim for having the courage to first come forward and report what occurred and for the courage to see the case through,” said District Attorney Jeff Cruden. “Luckily, her mother was by her side and supported her through the entire process.”

Jackson and his attorney requested that sentencing be continued until Aug. 19,2024.

This isn’t Jackson’s first run in with the law. In 2018, he was accused of punching a fellow councilman in the face.

Jackson was 36 and the victim was 15 when the crimes were committed.
