FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (DC News Now) — Police in Fredericksburg are searching for a Stafford man who was accused of trying to run a person over near the Rappahannock River Heritage Trail on Thursday evening.

The Fredericksburg Police Department (FPD) said around 5:15 p.m., a 911 call came in for a man attempting to run a woman over in the 400 block of Riverside Drive.

Police said during the attempt, the man, later identified as Anthony L. Pittman Jr., of Stafford, hit a milepost marker on the trail. This prevented him from hitting the woman.

Police said Pittman then fled the area in a U-Haul pickup truck, before they arrived.

Once on the scene, police officers conducted interviews and collected evidence.

FPD charged him with the following:

  • Attempted Aggravated Malicious Wounding
  • Reckless Driving with the Intent to Injure
  • Destruction of Property
  • Protective Order
