YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A Hampton man was arrested and charged in connection to several vehicle break-ins in York County.

On Sunday, June 30 just before 5 a.m. York-Poquoson Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 300 block of Saint Clair Circle for reports about a man breaking into vehicles.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they found several vehicles that had been broken into, and saw the suspect. Deputies followed the suspect as he ran into the woods, but lost track of him.

A short time later, deputies were able to identify the suspect and obtain arrest warrants.

With the assistance of the Hampton Police Department, the suspect, 21-year-old Yaseer Isaiah Powell was arrested and charged, that day, with the following offenses:

  • Obstruction of justice – class 1 misdemeanor
  • Damaging property – (9) counts class 1 misdemeanor
  • Grand larceny – felony
  • Unlawfully entering a vehicle – (10) counts class 1 misdemeanor
  • Petit larceny – (5) counts class 1 misdemeanor

Powell is currently being held in the Hampton City Jail.
