HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – A man was arrested on Wednesday in connection with a shooting on Armistead Avenue that left a man with non life-threatening injuries.

According to officials, around 12:29 a.m. on July 30, officers near Armistead Avenue and Union Street heard several gunshots. While officers were investigating, they received a call from Public Safety Communications for reports of shots fired in the 300 block of Lincoln Street.

Officers arrived to the scene and found an adult male with a gunshot wound to his back. The victim was transferred to a local hospital to be treated for non life-threatening injuries.

An investigation revealed the victim was shot after being approached by the suspect, later identified as 25-year-old Jahkari De’Shaun Jarrett, and an exchange of words.

Police said Jarrett was arrested on Aug. 7 and charged with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a felon.
