ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WNCN) — A months-long investigation in Rocky Mount led to the arrest of a man bringing 20 pounds of heroin into town on a train Friday night, police said.

Officers with the Rocky Mount Police Department Narcotics Unit learned just before 8:15 p.m. Friday that drugs would be brought into the town, according to a news release from the Rocky Mount Police Department.

Police said their investigation determined the suspect carrying heroin would be on an Amtrak train stopping at the Rocky Mount station at 101 Coastline St.

The Violent Criminal and Gang Apprehension Team, along with a K-9 Unit, responded to the train station.

Keith Haskins, 57, was found carrying 9,101.6 grams of heroin, which is slightly more than 20 pounds, the news release said.

Police released photos of the drugs that were found bundled in several packages.

Haskins was charged with two counts of trafficking heroin/opium.

Haskins was placed under a $5,000 secure bond and held in the Nash County Jail.
