NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Newport News Police said a shooting on Savage Drive led to a vehicle crash and arrest Friday night.
According to officials, around 9:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Savage Drive for reports of a shooting.
While officers were driving to the scene, they noticed a vehicle matching the description of a possible suspect fleeing from the scene at a high rate of speed. After an attempted traffic stop, the driver accelerated, eventually crashing into four vehicles near the intersection of Bland Boulevard and Jefferson Avenue.
According to police, two adults suffered non life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash.
The driver of the vehicle, 34-year-old Gabrielle Piggott, was taken into custody and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, shooting a firearm in a public place, reckless handling of a firearm and evading and eluding law enforcement.
An adult male victim was able to transport himself to a local hospital with a non life-threatening gunshot wound, police said.
