SNEADS FERRY, N.C. (WNCT) — A Sneads Ferry man is facing three charges of attempted murder after his arrest in an arson case that happened early Tuesday morning.

Onslow County deputies responded at around 4 a.m. to a call for service at Chadwick Shores Drive in Sneads Ferry. The call was for a fire that was suspected to be arson. Deputies learned three people of the home that was on fire were at a neighbor’s house. They fled the burning home.

All three were transported to Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, one of which was later airlifted to Chapel Hill Burn Center. All victims were expected to recover from their injuries.

Investigators identified another resident, Duane Christopher Brower, 62, as being responsible for intentionally setting the fire. They said Brower left the home prior to law enforcement arriving on the scene.

A statewide broadcast was sent to all law enforcement agencies. Brower was later apprehended and arrested without incident by Holly Ridge police during a traffic stop. He was taken before a magistrate and charged with the following:

  • Three counts of attempted first-degree murder
  • First-degree arson
  • Felony malicious use of explosive/incendiary

Brower was being held in the Onslow County Detention Center under no bond. His first court appearance was scheduled for Wednesday.
