RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A Richmond Public School bus driver was allegedly involved in a shooting outside of the Richmond Technical Center Friday morning, according to police.

At around 6:40 a.m. on Friday, May 10, officers with the Richmond Police Department were called to the Richmond Technical Center for the report of harassment.

When officers arrived, they found a man who works as a bus driver at the school, who reported that he and another man — who was not on scene when police arrived — had been in a personal conflict.

When officers were writing a report about the incident, they heard gunshots at around 7:10 a.m., and responded again to the scene. At that point, they saw the bus driver and the other man, who was running away from the scene.

Police stopped the man who was seen running away, and found that he had been shot, who was then taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe that the two men first had an altercation and then met again, which is when they believe the shooting occurred.

No students were in the school at the time of the shooting, since it occurred prior to the school day. Further, police said the bus driver had not yet started his shift, so officials believe that there was never a gun on a school bus.
