SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A Spotsylvania County woman accused of murdering her three roommates was arrested in New York Thursday evening following a police chase that reportedly reached 100 mph.
23-year-old Alyssa Jane Venable was taken into custody in Steuben County, New York, with the assistance of the United States Marshals Service and the New York State Police on Thursday, June 6, according to a press release from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, New York state troopers noticed a 2009 Honda Civic — what Venable was known to drive — and tried to perform a traffic stop. According to the release, Venable refused to stop and a pursuit began, which reportedly reached 100 mph.
After tire deflation devices were deployed, Venable crashed the Civic. According to the release, she was then arrested without incident and taken to a local hospital.
New York State Police said in a press conference Thursday night that Venable remains at the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. No one else was injured as a result of the crash.
Upon release, she will be held at the Steuben County Jail pending her extradition back to Virginia.
Venable is accused of the murders of her roommates, identified as 77-year-old Robert John McGuire, 60-year-old Gregory Scott Powell and 65-year-old Carol Anne Reese, all of Spotsylvania.
The search for Venable began following a welfare check performed at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, in the 10500 block of White Street. Spotsylvania deputies found the three victims dead inside, all with upper body trauma.
According to the office, Venable was soon identified as a suspect and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
Venable faces three counts of second-degree murder and one count of using a firearm while committing a felony.
